PROJECTION/REFLECTION
TATBİKAT SAHNESİ*
Based on our observations during our journey through the structure of the Tatbikat Sahnesi, we identified the defining themes of the structure as: “reflection, light, shadow, viewing angles, and boundaries,” and in our video work, we aimed to convey our experiences within this context. Among these themes, reflection stands out as an element that encompasses and highlights the other themes as well.
While three sides of the Tatbikat Sahnesi are right-hand sides, the entrance facade consists of solids and voids. The facade, constructed with deep-sectioned horizontal and vertical elements, is dominated by vertical emphasis. This linear structure also symbolically incorporates the Rehearsal Stage's logo onto the facade. The facade creates a large volume connecting all floors in the interior, ensuring spatial continuity; it also projects the foyer area of the interior onto the exterior on a similar scale, enlarging the common area and expanding the building's boundaries. In this sense, the facade acts as an intermediate reflective surface and a mediating spatial element.
The mirrors used in the interior create reflections within the space, offering users different viewing angles. Convex mirrors on the walls, chandelier surfaces, and angled mirrors expand the space, reflections from different angles remove boundaries, and the perception of space is recreated and enriched each time. These reflections also make the foyer appear larger than it is. Daylight and lighting vary between the interior and exterior spaces at different times of the day, creating striking light and shadow effects through reflections and the deep structural elements of the facade.
